Thanks for the comment! I definitely have a love/hate relationship with Sharepoint. Before getting the right backup processes in place, I lost a site as well. But as I mentioned in my post, Sharepoint was already integrated into the client's enterprise system. So it made a lot of sense to look at it here. If it hadn't worked out for them, there would have been many other quality options (open source and otherwise) to look at.

I agree, why reinvent the wheel. But don't use sharepoint, argh. I ran a sharepoint installation in my youth and came to regret it. We lost everything, a couple years worth of work and if you need something custom, could there be anything harder. Look toward open source young man.

It looks like a nice product, but I didn't look at Tensor because it's a UK company. One of the things that I like about Timeforce is the web based system allows employees to see their timecards, time off accruals, and even request time off. I believe that a self-service portal is crucial to an effective time and attendance system.

Hello,

I wanted to say that i agree with you. There is no point in pouring money into certifications that are completely unrelated. It makes no sense. My focus is Web Analytics and Intelligence but i have a background in Computer Science. I am shying away from the vendor-based certifications because they don't always tell employers that you've got the actual foundation to do the job.

As a computer guy, there is now enough roads that a person can and should focus in an area and for myself that is Web Analytics and Intelligence.

Excellent article. It reminds me of one i wrote on another one of my sites...

That's true, the design should be functional rather than rich of "bells and whistles".
