I wanted to say that i agree with you.  There is no point in pouring money into certifications that are completely unrelated.  It makes no sense.  My focus is Web Analytics and Intelligence but i have a background in Computer Science.  I am shying away from the vendor-based certifications because they don't always tell employers that you've got the actual foundation to do the job.

As a computer guy, there is now enough roads that a person can and should focus in an area and for myself that is Web Analytics and Intelligence.
